Hospital back in business

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Shortly after the tornado ripped through Moore in May, Moore Medical Center staff members were on the telephone with their counterparts in Joplin, Mo. That hospital also was destroyed in a tornado, and the lessons learned in Missouri helped Moore Medical and its parent, Norman Regional Health System, plan to move forward.

This week, less than seven months after the tornado, Moore reopened its doors in a temporary building. The facility, located near the site of the old hospital, will allow for trauma fast-track rooms for minor illnesses and injuries, an isolation room, treatment rooms, a triage area, X-ray, CT, ultrasound and lab services.

Many of the same physicians and hospital staff members who treated patients before the May 20 tornado are back in the new facility. It’s a testament to the resiliency of the hospital system and its dedication to the people of Moore.
