Lots of grandstanding here

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — State Sen. Harry Coates, R-Seminole, can’t understand why his fellow legislators don’t want to look into spending by the Insurance Commissioner. He told The Tulsa World he thinks it’s Republicans looking after fellow Republicans.

Mr. Coates has asked the governor to request a performance audit of Commissioner John Doak’s office. It comes amid claims of “frivolous” spending on chamber of commerce memberships, public service spots featuring the commissioner, travel, weapons, clothing, motivational books and even tablecloths.

“If this were a Democrat holding the office, I think we as Republicans and conservatives would be very interested in how the public’s money is being spent,” Mr. Coates told the World.

Mr. Doak told the newspaper he welcomed an audit and Sen. Coates was just grandstanding for the media. It seems there’s enough grandstanding on both sides here.
