NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:
Many people in our country believe the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was a mistake and want it abolished. After the government shutdown didn’t succeed, conservatives believe computer failures and their contentions that ACA is not working can get it abolished.
They have spent millions in advertising to influence more people.
The Center for American Progress has released a report showing that the ACA is working better than projected.
Insurance premiums are below estimates and there are estimates for savings to the federal government of $190 billion over the next 10 years.
Our part of the country probably has more “working poor,” those with jobs that don’t make enough to afford insurance and their companies don’t provide it, than the rest of the country. Morton Comprehensive Health Services, of northeastern Oklahoma, has some 21,000 patients registered and they say 10,000 of those are “working poor.”
It is criminal to have waited so long to take care of the health of so many of our citizens in need and many features of the ACA are overdue.
The legislatures fighting ACA so hard need to give it a chance to see if it works since they have not given an alternative.
