Project is wrong one for Asp

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

Norman’s city council is being asked to approve a land use change request to intensive commercial (C-3) with special use for a large building with commercial space and a 200-unit, 240 bedroom apartment complex on Campus Corner at Asp and Duffy.  The applicant is attempting to push this through, even though it was turned down by the planning commission twice, 09/13/12 and 6/13/13, and before Norman has a chance to establish high-density guidelines under which this project more likely fits.

Concerns over parking, traffic, scope and scale in the neighborhood have not been addressed.

This area is already one of the most congested in the city, and I am sure that we can all agree that Campus Corner is already lacking in adequate parking.  The addition of this many dwelling units will only heighten the congestion and parking concerns.  This project (currently drawn up at 5-plus stories) is too large and will dwarf the surrounding area. Privacy and natural lighting are additional concerns for neighbors. I urge the city council to turn this project down .
