NORMAN — Cellular telephones are being used to solve crimes every day. Drivers routinely call in and report bad drivers, suspected drunk drivers or suspicious activity.
Now, the phones themselves are able to help track down crime suspects. After a strong-armed robbery where the victim’s smart phone was stolen Saturday evening, police tracked the phone’s location.
We’ve heard of folks using the application to find lost phones but not catch criminals. Two suspects were located inside a business where they were trying to sell the phone.
The phone was “pinged” and an audible alert was sent. Employees of the store found the phone where the alleged thieves ditched it when they saw police converging there.
