We can worship as we choose

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

I read with a heavy heart a letter by Casey Holcomb that inaccurately attacked my council member’s faith and church in his recent diatribe.

If his gross inaccuracies of Williams’ faith or his church’s construction growth weren’t enough, the sheer fact that he would maliciously misrepresent and attack any faith-based institution that has done no harm, but rather has done much for our community, to further his own personal agenda is discouraging in this day and age.

I believe we are all free to worship as we choose, and I would hope we would respect everyone’s faith. I will respect Casey’s, even if he won’t respect mine. I, for one, am a good steward of the world our creator gave us. That includes loving and respecting our fellow human beings. I pray one day Casey Holcomb would approach thoughtful debate in the same way.

I would imagine Casey subscribes to the belief that faith shouldn’t play a part in politics, yet he uses it as a wedge in public discourse. That saddens me, and it’s a deeper reflection of what is wrong in our society, much more so than the specifics of a local ordinance and its implementation.
