NORMAN — Gov. Mary Fallin took another walking tour of damaged Moore neighborhoods Wednesday. It comes as the governor requested and was approved for an extension of the federal major disaster declaration.
The earlier declaration involved the May 19 and 20 storms, and the new one involves the tornadoes and flooding that occurred May 31 in central Oklahoma. More than 40 people lost their lives in May storms.
Six counties — including Cleveland, Lincoln, McClain, Oklahoma, Pottawatomie and Canadian counties — are eligible for federal help. In Moore alone, more than 900 homes were destroyed and hundreds of others were damaged in the May 20 storm.
The May 31 storm destroyed another 52 homes and left 193 with major damage and 159 with minor damage.
