NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:
At our Thanksgiving dinner, we have an auction to pay for rent on a place to have Thanksgiving and a place to have our Easter picnic celebration. This 24th year was held at Andrews Park in Norman, in the No. 5 pavilion. It costs $80 to rent this place that has tables and a covered top for shade and protection from the rain. It also has a nice park for the children with slides and swings.
Our Easter celebration has people attending from California, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas and all of Oklahoma. Games, horseshoes and donimoes are placed and trophies, first and second place ribbons are awarded. My husband, daughter and son-in-law arrived early to set up and get ready for the events.
Upon arriving, we found the two trash cans were full and the cement floor had trash on it. The bathrooms at the main building were unkept. I will say the picnic tables were extra nice and extra big to hold all the food that was brought for the event. At 5 p.m. another family arrived to use the pavilion. By then the trash cans were overflowing.
Am I wrong in thinking the place we rented should be worthy of our money? I would like to be proud of our parks in Norman instead of embarrassed.
