NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:
Regarding Mary Fallin’s reasons for the death penalty, “... remember the victims,” she is correct in most (not all) of her rationale. Some of us are ambivalent about the issue: for instance, crimes can be so heinous no option is left to us.
In Mary Fallin’s well chosen wording, she neglected that we as a people do ourselves great moral and psychological harm when we stoop to the level of the criminals. I am not proud we kill people. It is against all commandments in every major religion in the world.
I seek refuge in the thought that some compassion can shield our souls and spirits from the contamination of killing, or murder, under the name of execution.
