Sooner Theatre is a gem

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

Random thoughts about “Seussical” and the Sooner Theatre. Sitting in the Sooner Theatre and watching your own daughter onstage is quite a rush. I am always filled with equal parts fear and excitement.

I absolutely love having a spouse with whom I can share the exhilaration. However, it can be a little painful when she is nervously squeezing your arm during the scenes your daughter is onstage.

I am still amazed at the incredible talents that every single one of those young children brought onto the stage. Those kids could flat out dance. There also were some great individual singing performances throughout.

However, listening to the whole cast of more than 60 kids sing together was heaven to my ears. The acting was incredible, as well. Kids that age aren’t supposed to have that much talent!

Many of them probably felt right at home. Many were undoubtedly pushing themselves out of their comfort zones. All of them were learning that success only follows risking failure. I sure enjoyed sneaking peeks at other parents when their own child would come onto the stage. The ear-to-ear grins of proud parents are priceless.

The Sooner Theatre has given us as parents a tremendous opportunity to make many new friends, as well. Many of those friendships have been created at nearby watering holes while we anxiously waited for a show to begin. I still can’t believe a show of this caliber was done in just 17 days.

I absolutely love all of our children’s youthful energy and enthusiasm. I wish I still had that energy. The Sooner Theatre is Norman’s gem. I am so thankful to have such a wonderful place for all of our children to grow and to express themselves.  I am also thankful to the Sooner Theatre for helping create so many life-long memories.
