NORMAN — In between the neighborhood parades, barbecues and fireworks that will be a big part of today’s Fourth of July activities, we should all pause and reflect on our independence.
Despite the agendas being pushed by some naysayers, there is no better place in the world than the United States to call home. From Maine to California and Minnesota to Florida, as well as Hawaii and Alaska, Americans proudly enjoy our freedoms.
It’s a place with a little ingenuity and hard work people from any background can achieve greatness and prosperity.
It’s a place where we enjoy freedoms and live with no fear of government interference if we respectfully and legally display or voice different opinions.
It’s a place where no one has to apologize for getting a lump in their throat when Old Glory is raised or the band strikes up the national anthem.
It’s a place where we respect and give thanks to the thousands and thousands who have given the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms while serving our country. Today, we salute those who serve and proudly wear the uniforms that represent the branches of the Armed Services.
It’s great to be a citizen of the best country on earth — enjoy your Fourth.
