Congratulations Scott Martinon legislative committee post

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — In good economic times, some local lawmakers have shared with us that they were almost embarrassed to be elected from Norman and Cleveland County. Rural legislators think Norman and Stillwater and the two metro areas get the lions share of funding while all other areas of the state suffer.

We hope state Rep. Scott Martin, R-Norman, never gets that kind of feeling at the Capitol. He was appointed chairman of the Appropriations and Budget Committee of the 54th Legislature this week. He’ll begin his duties when the session opens in February.

Mr. Martin, a former assistant to the city manager for Norman and projects director and public works director for the town of Noble, had been serving as vice chair of A&B. His appointment was announced Monday by T.W. Shannon, incoming Speaker of the House.

After three terms in office, he has been called a reasonable, visionary lawmaker who understands the state’s strengths and priorities and the funding requirements needed to get there. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and works off-session at Republic Bank.

He understands the major economic engine OU has become in central Oklahoma.

We congratulate him on the leadership position and wish him well in his endeavors. We hope he is never ashamed to claim Cleveland County as his home.
