Company’s expansion a win-win for Norman

NORMAN — The long-awaited announcement of an anchor tenant in the University North Park TIF district came this week. Immuno Mycologics Inc., known locally as IMMY, plans to move its operations from the Norman Business Park on State Highway 9 to what will be known as the Advanced Marketing Center on 24th Avenue Northwest, north of Robinson Street.

IMMY creates life-saving tests for rare and neglected diseases that larger companies often overlook because the market may be too small. The locally owned and operated company has outgrown its building and will expand to the TIF district.

The company will receive a discounted price on the lot it is purchasing. They plan to create 50 jobs at the new operation and have to stay there for at least 10 years. The sponsoring Norman Economic Development Coalition hopes the announcement will bring more interest in the remaining land.

The city council’s 8-1 vote Tuesday night comes after months of negotiations and study. The TIF district had three major components: retail, employment and parkland. The retail continues to grow, the park is shaping up nicely and now the employment piece is falling into place.

The company is creating the kind of hi-tech, white-collar jobs that Norman residents have continually said in surveys and forums that they hope would land here. It’s a win for the city, the sponsoring NEDC and for the company.
