Success in a brown bag

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — The perception that the City of Norman is a tough place to get things done is spread by many in the business community. Although we don’t hear it as much as in previous years, the notion is still out there that the city looks for ways to deny business opportunities rather than look for ways to make something happen.

Whether that’s true or not, the perception is often reality. A group of local builders, subcontractors and city staff members are attempting to patch past grievances and work together for the good of the order.

The Chamber of Commerce and other groups have pushed for such dialogues in recent years. The hiring of development coordinator Terry Floyd has facilitated the meetings.

The daily grind of inspections and code interpretations are where the rubber meets the road for builders. Brown-bag lunches have been held to address code questions, development restrictions and other specific areas of concern to the housing and commercial construction industries.

The next gathering will be March 27.
