The homeless need help now

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

Thank you for allowing these comments to be a part of your morning read. Norman is a place that reaches out to the marginalized and works for justice for all.

Nevertheless, a problem remains for a loving and caring community to address, as we have identified at least 80 neighbors without shelter. These men, women and children often sleep in extreme temperatures on the streets.

No person should have to worry about surviving the night in the city of Norman.

The city and concerned agencies have a plan that will address this issue, but the timeline is way beyond 2013. These men, women and children are without shelter now.

They are not asking for a memory foam bed or a magic number of thread count sheets — just a cot and a blanket within a building that can provide protection and warmth.

Please help solve this crisis. If you have a location that could be used or know of someone who does, please call April Doshier, director of Food and Shelter, at 360-4954.

Perhaps you have a suggestion for solving this problem. If so, please let her know.

Just think — as you snuggle in your bed in your climate-controlled home — there are others do not have that luxury.
