Keith Nichol’s days at Oklahoma appear to be over. Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops confirmed Friday the quarterback has decided to transfer.

“We had a good conversation with Keith and certainly understand his desire to seek an opportunity in another program,” Stoops said in a statement. “He knows that we are supportive of him under any circumstance, whether it’s here or at a different school. We want what’s best for him.”

Friday morning, the freshman quarterback told a Grand Rapids, Mich., radio station he had decided to transfer.

“You gotta cut your losses sometimes and move on with your life,” Nichol told WBBL.

The Lowell, Mich., native rushed for 13 yards and completed 2-of-7 passes for 15 yards.

He played in mop-up duty against North Texas, Utah State and Tulsa.

Nichol was third on the depth chart coming out of spring practice, behind starter Sam Bradford and senior-to-be Joey Halzle.

Freshman Landry Jones graduated from high school a semester early and went through spring practice.

Nichol hasn’t given any indications of where he’d like to transfer.

“Keith worked very hard while he was here and put forth all the effort our coaches could expect,” Stoops said. “He contributed to our program with his character and dedication. Keith leaves with our appreciation and best wishes and we will do what we can to make this an easy transition for him.”
