Charges were filed Wednesday in connection with Loadholt’s arrest early Saturday morning after a traffic stop by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. According to the arrest affidavit, Loadholt, 22, was pulled over traveling southbound on Interstate 35 north of Main Street. The arresting officer detected a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, slurred speech and sluggish movements.” Loadholt was taken into custody after failing field sobriety tests. When his car was impounded, an open container of Busch Light and a bottle of malt liquor were found. He gave two readings of .15 when given a breathalyzer test. The Oklahoma legal limit is .08. If convicted on both counts, Loadholt could face a fine of up to $1,000 and a jail sentence of between 10 days and a year for the DUI, and a $500 fine and/or a six-month sentence for the open container charge. Loadholt’s court date is scheduled for July 8. There was no comment by OU coach Bob Stoops on any likely disciplinary measures taken against Loadholt. Stoops typically doesn’t announce any of those measures publicly. Loadholt started all 14 of the Sooners’ games last season and was an honorable mention All-American by Sports Illustrated and a second-team selection on the coaches’ All-Big 12 team.
