Of 51 voters, the Tigers were a unanimous choice to win the North Division, while the Sooners received all but two votes to prevail in the South. At last year’s Big 12 championship game, Missouri was in position to reach the national title game until OU derailed the dream with a 38-17 victory in San Antonio. Had it not been for a loss at Texas Tech, the Sooners would have been playing for the same chance. Instead, OU went to the Fiesta Bowl a second straight season, losing to West Virginia. Following the Tigers, Kansas, Colorado, Kansas State and Iowa State was the order in the North, while Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Baylor chased the Sooners. Texas received the two first-place votes OU didn’t get in the North. The 2008 Big 12 championship game will be played at 7 p.m., Dec. 6 at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium. The game will be broadcast by ABC (KOCO5-8). This time around, should the media choices come to pass, the Tigers could be favored. Missouri went 12-2 last season and returns 17 of 22 starters.
