SAN ANTONIO — The Oklahoma women are on a roll.

No. 3 in the latest Golfeek/Sagarin collegiate rankings, the Sooners claimed their second straight tourney triumph Tuesday at Briggs Ranch Golf Course.

The Sooners had the second best round of the day in the 15-team tournament, firing a final round 3-under par 285 to finish at 16-under 848 for the 54-hole event.

That put them eight strokes in front of second-place Texas A&M and 15 strokes in front of tourney host Texas-San Antonio and Tulane.

Also, it put them 11 strokes in front of the program’s previous best 54-hole total, the 5-under 859 total they shot to win the Susie Maxwell Bering Classic on their home course two weeks ago.

Simply put, OU women’s golf has never been this good.

“I’m really proud of everyone,” Sooner coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. “We played well all week. It was a great way for us to end our fall season.”

The Sooners did not crown a medalist. That honor went to Tulane’s Maribel Lopez Porras, who carded rounds of 68, 72 and 69 for a 7-under par 209 total.

Instead, OU claimed Kaitlyn Rohrback and Taylor Schmidt, who tied for third with 3-under par 212 totals. Rohrback closed in 71 and Schmidt in 73.

Also for the Sooners, Anne-Catherine Tanguay tied for fifth at 213 after closing with a sparkling 69. Emily Collins tied for 15th at even-par 216 after a Tuesday 74 and reigning NCAA medalist Chirapat Jao-Javenil tied for 18th after carding a final-round 72 to finish at 217.

The Sooners begin their spring schedule Feb. 15-17 at the Mash Up Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.
