Slump continues for OU baseball in loss to Oral Roberts

TULSA — The first prolonged slump of the season has firmly infected Oklahoma. The ramifications were on display Tuesday in its 3-0 loss at Oral Roberts.

The loss, which dropped the Sooners to 18-8, was their second straight of the shutout variety. They haven’t scored a run since putting up eight runs in the middle game of last weekend’s Big 12 Conference-opening series against Kansas State. The scoreless streak reached 18 innings Tuesday after OU mustered just five hits off the Golden Eagles’ Pepe Gomez. He improved to 2-2 with a complete-game victory.

The Sooners stranded nine base runners and grounded into two double plays.

The Golden Eagles (11-12) struck for a run in the second inning and never looked back. Tyler Boss was hit by a pitch with one out and came around to score on a two-out single by Dean Wilson. They grabbed two more runs in the sixth with a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.

Robert Tasin went 32⁄3 innings as he dropped to 2-1 on the season. He allowed just one run on four hits to go with two strikeouts. The Sooners used three relievers. Drew Krittenbrink (Okarche, Okla.) pitched the final three without allowing a run or a hit.
