NORMAN — Mission accomplished.
That’s where OU stands after completing coach Patty Gasso’s goal of taking a series victory over Baylor. The Sooners accomplished that goal with a 2-0 victory on Saturday, following up on Friday’s 3-2 win.
They did so thanks to a huge game from pitcher Kelsey Stevens, who has steadily improved as the season has progressed and turned in what may be her most impressive performance in holding 12th-ranked Baylor to just one hit in Saturday’s win.
While Stevens provided the pitching, Shelby Pendley and Kady Self provided the offense. Both hit two-out RBI singles in the fifth inning to give the Sooners all the runs they would need.
With the win, the Sooners are now in full control of their conference destiny. They sit at 8-0, ahead of 6-1 Texas, and have a chance to extend that lead when they meet Baylor for the series finale today.
