NORMAN — Records fell on Saturday at L. Dale Mitchell Park, and so did the Horned Frogs.
No. 16 Oklahoma earned the series win over TCU with a 3-1 victory, and Sooner junior Matt Oberste hit safely in his 28th straight game to break the school record.
The record-breaking hit came in the sixth inning, when Oberste singled through the right side of the infield, breaking the previous mark of 27 set by Marty Neff in 1991.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to be up there with that kind of group,” Oberste said after breaking the record. “It’s unfortunate that we can’t put the whole team at the top of the list, because they helped just as much as I did.”
OU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning courtesy of a combined three stolen bases by Craig Aikin and Max White as well as a TCU error. After TCU cut the deficit to 2-1, the Sooners responded when a fielding error allowed Oberste to score one batter after his record-breaking hit.
Dillon Overton struck out four over 52⁄3 innings to pick up the win for OU (21-4, 2-0), which won its ninth in a row. The Sooners will meet TCU (9-13, 1-4) at 1 p.m. today to close out the series.
