NORMAN — By John Shinn
Oklahoma guard Buddy Hield will not play in the team’s exhibition trip to Europe next week. Hield had a flare-up in practice Sunday night to the foot injury he suffered last season.
“It’s more precaution than anything else,” OU coach Lon Kruger said Wednesday night at the Sooner Caravan stop at the Cox Center in Oklahoma City. “It flared up a little bit and he has a screw in there (Hield’s foot). He’s still a little bit sore. Instead of rushing him into competition right now, we’ll keep him out and make sure he’s healthy in the long run.”
Hield, a sophomore, scored 7.8 points a game last season but missed five games after breaking the fifth metatarsal in his right foot.
Hield will still make the trip to Europe. The Sooners will play five games in Belgium and France beginning Aug. 8.
