Sooners clinch series over Raiders

NORMAN — Following up a no-hitter on Friday, there wasn’t much more Keilani Ricketts could do to help the Sooners win. But she did just that on Saturday, blasting a pair of home runs as the top-ranked Sooners earned their second straight shutout victory over Texas Tech, this time a 6-0 victory.

OU (36-2, 5-0) added another home run when sophomore Lauren Chamberlain earned her 20th of the season. The victory over the Red Raiders (27-19, 1-7) was the Sooners’ ninth in a row and guaranteed them a series victory, with the two squads set to square off for one more contest today at noon.

While the Sooners dominated at the plate, pitcher Michelle Gascoigne took care of business in the circle. The senior went the distance while allowing just four hits in the shutout. She struck out eight while walking just one to push her record on the season to 15-1.

With the win, the Sooners kept pace with Texas, which is 6-0 in the Big 12. The two schools are set for a three-game showdown in Austin next week that will give one the inside track to the conference title.
