Pitching, clutch hits lifts Sooners in win

WACO, Texas — Oklahoma struggled to score runs again Saturday, but it didn’t stop them from evening its series at Baylor.

Hector Lorenzana provided the game-tying RBI with a single to score Matt Oberste in the seventh inning and scored the go-ahead run on an error in the Sooners’ 3-1 victory over the Bears at Baylor Ballpark.

The victory lifted OU to 28-7 overall and 8-3 in the Big 12 Conference. Baylor dropped to 18-17 and 6-4.

Once again, the Sooners dominated on the mound. Dillon Overton (7-2) held the Bears to one run on six hits over eight innings. The junior left-hander struck out eight. Jacob Evans recorded the final outs in the ninth to get his seventh save.

Max Garner (2-4) took the loss. He allowed two runs on four hits over 61⁄3 innings. He struck out six.

OU added an insurance run in the ninth inning on Craig Aikin’s RBI single.

The teams return to Baylor Ballpark at 1 p.m. for the series finale.
