NORMAN — The Big 12/SEC Challenge will bring a very familiar foe to Lloyd Noble Center on Dec. 5. Oklahoma will host Missouri for the first time since the Tigers left the Big 12 for the SEC.
The Big 12 and Southeastern Conferences announced the matchups for the 10-game series on Wednesday.
OU’s game versus Missouri will take place the day before the Sooners host Oklahoma State in the Bedlam football game.
All games in the 2014 SEC/Big 12 Challenge are scheduled for Dec. 3-6. ESPN will provide exclusive coverage of all 10 games on its networks. Additional components of the event, including tipoff times and exact network information, will be announced at a later date.
Last season, the Big 12 won the series of meetings with the SEC by capturing wins in seven of the 10 meetings. OU posted a 64-52 win over Texas A&M in Houston.
The Big 12 has posted a 35-23 (.603) record in the last two challenge series it has played (vs. Pac-10, SEC) dating back to 2007.
“The Big 12 was thrilled with the success of the Challenge last season,” Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said in statement. “We are equally excited about this year’s games that will continue to add quality opponents to our strong non-conference schedules as we look to defend our performance as the nation’s No. 1 conference.”
Missouri, which last played in the Big 12 during the 2011-12 season, finished 23-12 last year and advanced to the second round of the NIT.
The Tigers are under the direction of head coach Kim Anderson, who was hired last month. Anderson, who played at Missouri and was the 1977 Big Eight Player of the Year, was an assistant at the school from 1991-99 under former head coach Norm Stewart.
OU leads the all-time series, 112-97, against Missouri.
