“She was a little jittery tonight, and that’s to be expected,” Gasso said. “Shelby went through it last year, too. It’s good that we got that out of the way today.”
The win advances OU to the winner’s side of the bracket, and the Sooners have a chance to punch their ticket to a regional final with a 1 p.m. game today against Texas A&M, which defeated Hofstra 7-6 on Friday. If the Sooners defeat the Aggies they’ll need to win just one of two games Sunday to advance to the Super Regional. If they lose, they’ll face an elimination game against the winner of Hofstra-Bryant.
There’s more good news for OU. All-American slugger Lauren Chamberlain is expected to return to the lineup today after suiting up but sitting out Friday’s contest. Chamberlain is trying to play through a torn PCL she suffered in last weekend’s Bedlam contest in Stillwater.
“I’m more than hopeful she’ll be playing,” Gasso said after the game. “In other words, you can probably expect to see her tomorrow.”
