NORMAN — The 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft ended on Saturday with four current Oklahoma players and one prep player with local ties being selected.

Right-hander pitcher Connor Buchmann was taken by the New York Mets in the 11th-round (325th overall pick). Buchmann only started four games this season due to injury. He went 2-2 with a 3.53 ERA over 12 innings

Sophomore left-hander Adam Choplick went to the Chicago White Sox in the 32nd round (948th overall pick). Choplick led the Sooners’ pitching staff with 76 strikeouts. He went 3-4 with a 5.35 ERA. Choplick was draft-eligible because he redshirted the 2012 season.

Senior second baseman Hector Lorenzana was the final OU player selected, going to the Boston Red Sox in the 37th round (pick No. 1,124). Lorenzana hit .272 with one homer and 26 RBIs.

As far as local prep players go, Westmoore outfielder Hunter Aguirre, who has signed to play at Cowley County (Kan.) Community College, was selected by the Miami Marlins with the 1,187th overall pick in the 40th-round.

Among potential incoming freshmen for next season, OU has six weeks to sweat out whether Carl Albert third baseman Gavin LaValley will sign with the New York Yankees after he was taken in the fourth round (125th-overall pick) or join the Sooners. The Yankees also grabbed OU signee and LaValley’s Carl Albert teammate Cameron Warren in the 39th round (1,172nd overall pick.
