Norman North’s Evans seems to be everywhere

NORMAN — About 14 hours after once again being a huge factor as Norman North moved on to the Class 6A state championship game by taking down Owasso 49-42 Friday night, the Timberwolves linebacker, kick returner and occasional running back and wildcat quarterback, Jordan Evans, was on the Sooner sideline as OU went through its Bedlam pregame routine.

Evans, who returned a kick for a touchdown and picked up a sack on the game’s final play, is the No. 5 recruit in the state according to rivals.com behind Moore’s D.J. Ward, Tulsa East Central’s Stanvon Talor, Vian’s Rob Boyd and Tulsa Washington’s Dominique Alexander. Also, according to rivals, Evans has received scholarship offers from Air Force, Arkansas State, Colorado State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, Navy, New Mexico, Ohio, South Dakota State and UNLV.

Both Bedlam rivals, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, are listed as showing interest yet not, at least yet, making a scholarship offer. That should change, however, Evans himself reported being offered a scholarship by the Sooners Saturday.

Nice moment: Bob Barry Sr., the longtime radio voice of both OU and OSU football and basketball, and a figure in the Norman community going back to his work at radio station KNOR and as the voice of Norman High football before Bud Wilkinson chose him to become the voice of the Sooners before the 1961 season, was posthumously presented the National Football Foundation’s “Chris Schenkel Award” between the first and second quarters. Barry’s son Frank accepted the award in his father’s honor. Barry died on Oct. 29 of last year.

Brown on Brown: Three different times in the first half, this was the call from the press box PA announcer. “No. 19 Brown on the catch. No. 19 Brown on the tackle.” OU’s Brown is wide receiver Justin Brown. OSU’s Brown is cornerback Brodrick Brown.
