WACO, Texas — Oklahoma’s pitching showed up Friday. Scoring runs was another issue.
The Sooners dropped the opener of its three-game series at Baylor, 2-1, Friday. It marked the eighth time in the last 10 games OU has scored four runs or less.
Baylor (18-16, 6-3 Big 12) claimed the victory on Cal Towey’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Sooners (27-7, 7-3 Big 12) had rallied to tie it up on Craig Aikin’s RBI single to score Hunter Haley in the top of the ninth inning.
It was another tough offensive night for the Sooners. They only had six hits and Aikin’s was the only one with a runner in scoring position.
Scoring the run in the ninth inning allowed OU’s Jonathan Gray to avoid a loss. The right-hander threw eight innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out 10. Gray held the Bears scoreless over his final seven innings on the mound.
Jake Fisher (0-1) entered in the ninth and Towey was the only batter he faced.
Crayton Bare (2-1) got the Bears out of the jam in the top of the ninth inning to get the victory.
The teams return to Baylor Ballpark at 3 p.m. today for Game 2 of the series.
