NORMAN — Every year, coach Patty Gasso’s Oklahoma softball program plays a “fall schedule.”
It’s a series of exhibitions that helps get her team ready for the spring and an opportunity for the fan base ,that her program has fostered, to watch its favorite team.
This time around it’s a little different.
One, OU is the defending national champion. Two, having lost the services of two-time national player of the year Keilani Ricketts as well as WCWS-clinching pitcher Michelle Gascoigne, the Sooners will gladly take every opportunity to develop new arms. Three, of the eight games on the schedule, three are against Division I competition and two are against SEC competition.
Also, every game will be played at Marita Hynes Field.
Sept. 27 and 28, it’s Connors State and St. Gregory’s visiting Norman. The next day, Independence (Kan.) Community College and Seminole State both visit the diamond.
Then it gets fun, when Arkansas comes in for a doubleheader on Oct. 6 followed by North Texas visiting Oct. 16. On Oct. 24 Butler (Kan.) visits for OU’s final game of the fall.
