OKLAHOMA CITY — With the Big 12 title at stake, Oklahoma responded with a signature victory over Bedlam rival Oklahoma State on Friday night.
In top-ranked OU’s first return to ASA Hall of Fame Stadium since last year’s loss in the Women’s College World Series championship, the Sooners dismantled the Cowgirls 10-1.
The Sooners (45-4) blasted four home runs, jumping out to a 6-1 lead in the third inning on their way to the five-inning victory over OSU (30-23, 6-9). The win moved OU to 12-2 in the Big 12 and leaves it just one victory short of clinching the Big 12 title. The Sooners will get their chance when the two teams meet again at noon today at Marita Hynes Field, and they’ll wrap up 1 p.m. Sunday in Stillwater.
Friday, it didn’t look early like it would be a run-rule game. OSU took a 1-0 lead into the third inning, when Keilani Ricketts blasted a grand slam to help her own cause in the circle.
OU also added homers from Lauren Chamberlain, Shelby Pendley and Brittany Williams.
