NORMAN — The Sooners are off to the best start in Oklahoma’s history after a 13-7 win over Texas Tech on Sunday to complete the series sweep.
OU (37-2, 6-0) remained undefeated in Big 12 play with the win, a victory in which the Sooners had to hold on after the Red Raiders (27-20, 1-8) mounted a late comeback.
The Sooners jumped out 6-0 after three innings, but Texas Tech cut that to 6-3 in the fourth inning. But the Sooners were able to add another run in the fifth and three in the sixth behind Lauren Chamberlain’s career-high four hits. The sophomore also homered for the fourth game in a row, tying the school record she’s already matched twice. It was her 21st home run of the season and 51st of her career.
While Chamberlain provided the deep ball, Shelby Pendley also did her part at the plate. She finished the day 3 of 4 with six RBIs.
OU moved to 6-0 in the Big 12, the strongest start since doing the same in 2008. The Sooners are on track to tangle with Texas in Austin next week for a three-game series that will give one team control of the conference race.
