Mean Green no match for Sooners

NORMAN — Oklahoma dominated the Big 12’s weekly awards announced Tuesday, and they then took to the field and did the same against North Texas.

Two days after earning a series victory of Texas, top-ranked Oklahoma pounded North Texas 12-1 behind a big day at the plate by Shelby Pendley and Jessica Shults.

After hitting two solo homers on Sunday, Pendley followed it up with a 2-for-4 day and her 16th home run of the season Tuesday to finish with four RBIs. Shults also went 2 for 4 at the plate and extended her school record career home run total to 61.

In the circle, Keilani Ricketts picked up the win, going five innings after being named the Big 12 pitcher of the week for her two wins over No. 6 Texas. In addition to Ricketts, Brianna Turang also earned conference honors as the Big 12 player of the week.

Tuesday’s win moves Oklahoma to 40-3 on the season as North Texas falls to 22-21. The Sooners will have a few days off before returning to Marita Hynes Field for a 6:30 p.m. game against Iowa State, the first of three games the two teams will play this weekend.
