NORMAN — Keilani Ricketts recorded a season high in strikeouts with 17 in the first game of the day, but it wasn’t the Sooners’ 4-2 win over Kansas in the first game of a doubleheader that stood out on Sunday. Rather, the takeaway was Kansas’ shutout of top-ranked OU in a 2-0 victory in the second contest.
Oklahoma (44-4, 12-2) was shut out for just the second time this season, while the Jayhawks (31-16, 6-8) kept the race for the Big 12 title alive with the upset. It was OU’s first loss to an unranked team in 13 months and handed the Sooners their second conference loss of the year.
The Sooners still hold a one-game lead over Texas in the race for the title, but with a Bedlam series remaining, as well as a possible makeup game against Kansas still on the schedule, the Sooners haven’t locked up the title.
With the loss, the Sooners fell to 2-4 in games in which they score two or fewer runs, while posting a 42-0 record in the rest of their games. The Sooners also stranded nine runners in the loss.
