Duck and goose hunters can now pick up the newest copy of the free "2009-10 Oklahoma Waterfowl Guide." The free 20-page publication is available free anywhere hunting licenses are sold or online at wildlifedepartment.
Norman birdwatchers participate in first Big Sit
Imagine 500 huge American White Pelicans with pouched bills and 9-foot wings outstretched, coming over the tree tops so low you can hear the air rushing through their feathers.
That was just one of the highlights that a stalwart bunch of Norman birdwatchers (or "birders" as they call themselves) enjoyed as they participated in Norman's first Big Sit at the North Sentinel camping area on Lake Thunderbird October 11.

A common message that I heard and saw in the crowds was: Can we do this again soon? Some wanted to come back next week also. Most seemed very pleased at the outcome and the efforts to help in bridging the gap for some -- many who had never touched an alligator, seen an eagle up close, shot a weapon, caught a fish or paddled a kayak.

DEQ sets public meeting on North Canadian River study
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will hold a public meeting 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1 in the Multipurpose Room at DEQ's Oklahoma City office, 707 North Robinson, to receive comments on a document aimed at improving water quality in the North Canadian River as it flows through the Oklahoma City metro area.
