Chad Vice files for Norman School Board seat

Filings close Wednesday at 5 p.m.

NORMAN —

    Two more candidates filed for local school board races Wednesday.

    Chad Vice, former owner and now managing partner of operations at Havenbrook Funeral Home, filed for the Norman Office No. 4 position. Ann Jones filed for the Office No. 4 office in Little Axe.

   The incumbent Norman board member, Don Shandy, has said he does not plan to file for re-election.

   Vice, a lifelong Oklahoman and funeral director, and his wife, Jennifer, have two children in Norman schools. He graduated from Cordell High School, the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service and Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

   They are members of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church. He was appointed earlier this year to the Independent Review Board of Norman Regional Health Systems. He was also appointed to a five-year term on the Oklahoma Funeral Board.

Vice is a member and was previously program chair of Sooner Rotary. He has served as a member of the Campaign Cabinet of the United Way of Norman and is a member of the Norman Chamber of Commerce.

     Four candidates filed for various board seats Monday. Candidates filing were Max D. Venard for Moore Norman Technology Center No. 17, Zone 4, Office No. 4; Paul W. Garrett for Lexington School District No. I-57, Office No. 4; and Rodney Barrett for Noble School District No. I-40, Office No. 4. John B. Southerland, Robin Hill, Office No. 1.

Venard is the incumbent of the MNTC Zone 4, Office No. 4 seat. Garrett is the incumbent for the Lexington School District No. I-57, Office No. 4 seat. He currently serves as president of the Noble Board of Education.

Barrett also is the incumbent of the Noble School District No. I-40, Office No. 4 seat. Southerland is the incumbent in the Robin Hill district.  

The Election Board will continue to accept Declarations of Candidacy from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Declarations of Candidacy are available at the Election Board Office or at clevelandcountyelectionboard.com and are required to be notarized. There is no filing fee for School Board Candidates.

The following school board offices are up for election in the Annual School Election to be held Feb. 11: Norman School District No. I-29, Office No. 4, five-year term; Moore School District No. I-2, Office No. 4, five-year term; Noble School District No. I-40, Office No. 4, five-year term; Lexington School District No. I-57, Office No. 4, five-year term; Little Axe School District No. I-70, Office No. 4, five-year term; Robin Hill School District No. C-16, Office No. 1, three-year term; and Moore Norman Technology Center No. 17, Zone 4, Office No. 4, five-year term.
