Oklahoma has never played a conference game in early September, but that will change when it faces West Virginia at 6 p.m. Saturday at Owen Field.
OU coach Bob Stoops said the reason the game was moved up was both OU and West Virginia were looking at having two off weeks in September. Moving the game to the second week solved the problem.
Still, most teams prefer to have more than one game under their belts before entering conference play.
“Both of us must (liked the idea), otherwise why would we have moved it?” Stoops said. “For the whole schedule, it fit better.”
