Irish running game struggling

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame rushed for 215 yards in last year’s meeting with Oklahoma. But there’s significant signs the Irish lack the offensive muscle they had last season.

The Irish have averaged just 113.3 rushing yards through four games and were held under 100 rushing yards the last three weeks against Michigan State, Purdue and Michigan.

“The last three weeks have been a real challenge for us, as you know, in the running game,” Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said earlier this week. “We certainly have to run the ball better. We know that. I think everybody here in this room and America knows that. We think that the circumstances are such that we're going to continue to work at it in practice, and we know we have to be better at it. It's not going to be easy against Oklahoma, either. We just know we have to be better at it.”
