NORMAN — Oklahoma pitcher Jonathan Gray and first baseman Matt Oberste have both been named to All-American teams presented by Louisville Slugger, Baseball America and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Both were first-team selections by the NCBWA this week.
Gray, who went 10-3 with a 1.64 ERA this past season, also earned first-team honors from Baseball America as well as selection to the Louisville Slugger All-American Second Team, as announced by Collegiate Baseball News last week.
The junior from Chandler was the third overall pick in last week’s Major League Baseball Draft by the Colorado Rockies. Gray also finished the year with 147 strikeouts in 126 1-3 innings pitched.
Oberste also garnered in a second-team selection from Baseball America and a third-team selection from Louisville Slugger. The junior from Sallisaw led the Sooners in hitting with a .373 average to go with 19 doubles, 11 home runs and 60 runs batted in. Oberste was drafted in the seventh round with the 206th overall pick by the New York Mets.
The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) is anticipated to release its All-American Team at the College World Series next week.
