A residence at 851 Cardan Place in Moore burned on Friday afternoon. The home was fully engulfed by fire before Moore firefighters were able to suppress it. Flames leapt from the center roof as black smoke billowed into the sky above the tornado damaged neighborhood. An RV on its side still rests in the home’s front yard.
The neighborhood is just north of the Plaza Towers Elementary school which was destroyed in the May 20 tornado. The home appeared to have tornado damage as the fire ate through the roof and apparently gutted the structure.
Firefighters connected hoses to hydrants still surrounded by tornado debris as they pumped high volumes of water onto the residence. To one side of the fire engulfed home another home lay in ruins, apparently destroyed by the tornado. The home on the opposite side appeared to have sustained only minor damage, and Moore firefighters battled to keep the blaze from spreading to its roof.
Moore responded with full equipment including ladder trucks and pumpers. The photographer on the scene said the fire appeared to have started in the center of the home and the roof had collapsed.
