Thursday candidate filing update

No Cleveland County candidates have filed yet today

NORMAN — Former state Speaker of the House, T.W. Shannon, age 36, R-Lawton, filed today to run for the unexpired U.S. Senate seat of Dr. Tom Coburn. Shannon joins a growing field of Republican candidates, with Congressman James Lankford, R-Oklahoma City, also expected to thrown his hat into the ring. Both Shannon and Lankford announced shortly after Coburn announced that he will be stepping down. So far, one Democrat and three other Republicans have filed for the seat.

A second Independent candidate has filed to run for governor. Joke Sills, age 34, I-Oklahoma City joins another Independent and a Democrat to challenge Republican Gov. Mary Fallin.

Running for Insurance Commissioner, Bill Viner, age 61, R-Moore, will challenge incumbent John Doak, R-Tulsa.

Filing for county and state offices started Wednesday and continues from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday.

Candidates for state offices file with the State Election Board in Oklahoma City, while candidates for Cleveland County offices file at the county election board, 641 E. Robinson St.
