Crews extinguish barn fire in southeast Norman

Firefighters feared winds could whip up grass fire nearby

NORMAN — Norman firefighters were able to extinguish a barn fire before strong north winds pushed the fire to nearby pastures, officials said.

Deputy Chief Jim Bailey said the barn at 4600 36th Avenue SE was totally engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived Thursday morning.

The barn fire also caused a small grass fire which was quickly extinguished, Bailey said.

“That was our biggest concern,” Bailey said of potential grass fire.

Noble firefighters were also on the scene.
