NORMAN — The field in the 2013 Women’s Amateur Public Links was trimmed to 16 by early Thursday afternoon.

Oklahoma’s Chirapat Jao-Javanil and Anne-Catherine Tanguay both rolled through their morning matches to advance to the quarterfinals.

Jao-Javanil topped Robynn Ree, 4-and-3. Tanguay also had a relatively easy morning, besting Chaewon Park, 5-and-3.

There was surprise in the second round. Defending WAPL champion fell to Briana Mao, 3-and-2.

Co-medalist Doris Chen remained in the field, holding off Allyssa Ferrell, 1-up.

Moore’s Jade Staggs also went home early Thursday afternoon. Staggs held a 1-up lead going into the 18th hole against Oklahoma State’s Julie Yang. However, Staggs hit her second shot in the creek bordering the front of the green and wound up conceding a par to Yang to force a playoff. Yang won it with a bogey on the second hole.

As of 2:45 p.m., all eight of the quarterfinal matches had started. The field will be down to eight by the end of play Thursday.
