NORMAN — The Oklahoma women are headed to a 15th straight NCAA tournament.
Believed to be on the bubble, the Sooners received one of the tourney's last at-large bids, and will enter the as the No. 10 seed in the Lincoln Regional, beginning play around 12:30 p.m. Saturday against No. 7-seed DePaul inside Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C. The Sooners and Blue Demons will follow a 10 a.m. matchup between No. 2-seed and homestanding Duke and No. 15-seed Winthrop. The winners of those two games meet Monday trying to reach the Sweet 16.
Throughout the Sooners' ongoing run of reaching the Big Dance, no bid had ever seemed quite as uncertain as this one. In 2005, a 17-12 OU team received No. 9 seed. This Sooner team, 18-14, will enter March Madness not quite as high.
Should OU get past DePaul, it will should meet a familiar opponent. Duke topped the Sooners 94-85 at Lloyd Noble Center on Dec. 8. At the time, it was the closest any team had played the unbeaten Blue Devils. In that game, OU outscored Duke 58-48 in the second half.
