NORMAN — Oklahoma received its NCAA tournament regional assignment Monday. For the second straight year the Sooners will head east.
OU is the No. 2 seed at the Blacksburg (Va.) regional. Regional host Virginia Tech is the top seed. They will be joined by No. 3 seed Coastal Carolina and fourth-seeded Connecticut.
OU (40-19) will open in the double-elimination tournament at noon Friday against Coastal Carolina (37-20) at English Field in Blacksburg. The Hokies (38-20) will face (34-26) at 6 p.m. Friday.
The winner of the Blacksburg regional will face the winner of the Baton Rouge (La.) regional in the three-game super regional series June 7-9 for a spot in the College World Series.
LSU, Louisiana-Lafayette, Sam Houston State and Jackson State are set to compete in Baton Rouge.
