OKLAHOMA CITY — A judge in Oklahoma City has refused to delay the upcoming trial for a former state senator accused of bribery.

Attorneys representing former Sen. Debbe Leftwich had sought a three-month delay of her trial because of publicity surrounding the recent conviction of her co-defendant, former state Rep. Randy Terrill.

Prosecutors allege that Terrill set Leftwich up with a job at the state medical examiner’s office in exchange for not running for re-election. A jury convicted Terrill last month of bribery.

At a hearing Wednesday, Special Judge Cindy Truong said that an impartial jury can be seated in Oklahoma County for Leftwich’s trial beginning Dec. 9.
