The Cleveland County CROP Walk Children’s Sidewalk Art Contest, scheduled from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, will be held rain or shine.
“If it rains, we will have indoor ‘sidewalks’ made of black butcher paper where kids and families can create their artwork,” said organizer Ed Kearns. “We want to encourage everyone to come out and join in the fun.”
“Helping The Hungry — Making A Difference” is the contest theme. Children will be grouped by age, with a separate category for family entries. Professional artists will be on hand to offer guidance and serve as judges. Chalk and refreshments will be provided. The entry fee for the contest is a donation of peanut butter or tuna, which will be distributed to food pantries throughout Cleveland County. Numerous children’s prizes donated by local businesses will be awarded, as well as prizes for moms only. Local artist Jahruba Lambeth will entertain children with African drumming and storytelling.
The contest helps set the stage for the Cleveland County CROP Walk to Fight Hunger, scheduled Oct. 6 at Norman’s Food and Shelter, 104 W. Comanche St. The event begins with registration at 1:30 p.m. and step-off at 2 p.m. The three-mile walk-a-thon helps raise awareness and raise funds to fight hunger and poverty locally and globally.
