Crews are continuing to search in Le Flore County for an airplane that disappeared while flying from Arkansas to Oklahoma.

Le Flore County Undersheriff Kendall Morgan says the search resumed Thursday morning in southern Le Flore County, with the Civil Air Patrol and American Red Cross coming in to assist.

Authorities say the search began Tuesday after the Federal Aviation Administration said 71-year-old Elmer Ray Broadbent and his Piper 28 aircraft disappeared while flying from Searcy to Elk City. The plane went missing in a heavily wooded area of the Ouachita National Forest.

It’s the second time in a week that an aircraft has gone missing in the area. On Tuesday, crews discovered the wreckage of a plane that crashed in western Arkansas a day earlier, killing an Oklahoma couple.
