NORMAN — It was one month ago today that an EF-5 tornado ripped through the Cleveland County community of Moore leaving behind a path of destruction.
Being called one of the most powerful tornadoes to ever hit Oklahoma, the traumatic event began near Newcastle at approximately 2:45 p.m. At 3:01 p.m., a tornado emergency was issued for Moore and south Oklahoma City. Within minutes, the tornado began carving its way through Moore leaving 24 dead and at least $2 billion in damage. Thirty-five minutes later, the tornado dissipated at 3:36 p.m. over Lake Stanley Draper.
Earlier this week, The Norman Transcript and Moore American released the magazine “35 Minutes of Terror.” The magazine recounts the devastation of the May 20 tornado in Moore and the recovery efforts in the week that followed.
Copies of the magazine are available at locations around Moore and at The Transcript office. The magazine had a limited printing and will be available while supplies last.
